Chirebon is a city located on the island of Java, in the province of West Java.
It is located approximately 300km east of the capital Jakarta.
It is a city that is strongly influenced by the history and culture of the Chinese region.
The most common means of transportation from the capital, Jakarta, are trains or shuttle buses.
* Location No. 1 on the map below. No.2 is Jakarta.
Batik
Cirebon is a town famous for batik. Batik is a specialty product made by dyeing cloth with wax. There are approximately 40 batik workshops and shops in the Trusmi district. It symbolizes Cirebon, the town of batik workshops.
This building in particular is the largest and has a variety of products for sale. The patterns are endless.
There is a wide variety of batik costumes, with prices starting from around Rp 50,000(about 3.21 USD). We carry shirts, pants, bags, and other souvenirs.
I bought any cloth fabrics.
There was a famous Japanese batik craftsman, but unfortunately he passed away in 2021.
Transportation
In Indonesia, this public transportation was called as “Becak“. The reason for the unique pronunciation is that it’s taken from the Chinese language which mean cart.”
It is a tricycle taxi. By the way, motorcycle taxis are called “Ojek”.
However, Becak is only used to slowly move around nearby areas. Ride-hailing apps “Grab, Gojek, and Bluebird” have become the main means of transportation. It’s cheap and easy to make calls.
Jamu
Traditional herbal drink.
Jamu is a herbal medicine made from a mixture of plant fruits, skins, leaves, roots, etc. It is said to utilize the effects and efficacy of natural materials to enhance natural healing power and beauty effects.
It was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023.
Because the ingredients and cooking methods are passed down from parent to child, the taste differs from person to person.
Also, since the drinks are mixed one cup at a time, you can make different cups depending on the patient and the patient’s symptoms.
The natural look of Indonesia
There aren’t many people, and time passes slowly as the becak cars pass by. However, it is a large city with many shops and residences. Batik is thriving and you can buy a variety of products.
Most of all, the locals are very kind. Many people have been kind to me. This is my best memory in Indonesia.
