There are nomads who live in gers, surrounded by vast open spaces with many camels and sheep. “朝青龍”, sumo wrestler, is famous, I can’t really think of anything else noteworthy.
However, I’ve heard that Ulaanbaatar is now a happening city. So I decided to go see it for myself.
Why is Mongolia?
I wrote it below.
Summary
Half of Mongolia’s population is concentrated in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, so I stayed in a ger in the countryside and walked around the city in Ulaanbaatar.
👍 Everyone is kind. Sometimes he speaks to me in Japanese
👍 Staying in a ger is a valuable accommodation experience that can only be found in Mongolia
❌ The capital is small due to the small population
❌ It’s difficult because there are limited means of transportation to get to the countryside
VISA was not required.
At the Immigration Office, we did not register our fingerprints and were only asked “Where will you stay?.”
The entry stamp will be placed on the last page. Stamps are often checked while sightseeing, so this is to make it easier to check.
MIAT Mongolian Airlines is very convenient. However, the drawback is that the new airport is too far from the city, approximately 50km away.
This provide a shared bus, but there are some difficulties in using it. They are not aware of tourists, and the frequency of buses is small, which is very inconvenient.
Anyway, it’s full of meat dishes. It is high in fat, so be careful not to cause stomach upset.
Also, the amount per plate is large. Even one plate was quite a lot for one person.
There are few differences in taste depending on the restaurant or region.
Mongolia is characterized by its vast land. Once you leave the capital, you will find yourself in untouched nature and animals will cross the road.
There are several markets in the city. Narantor market in particular is so large that it is difficult to visit all the shops.
It is also interesting to see that markets have different characteristics, such as Balszach, which mainly sells food.
As the Khan expanded his territory, he was able to control a huge amount of territory.
The dormitory type was a great deal at 9-12 USD. However, breakfast was included and it was clean.
I also went on tours with the people I stayed at, and not only stayed there, but also traveled with them.
Beer is easy to drink. Only Genghis had some quirks.
Beer was indispensable for nightlife and breaks from walking around the city. Beer was pretty cheap at any high-end restaurant.
The difficulty in Mongolia may be transportation. Buses in the city were always crowded and the timetables were hard to read.
It is difficult to read the time on long-distance buses. The city was always crowded.
When I went there, the Semi-Gobi tour was popular. The Gobi Desert is too far away, so we go to Semi-Gobi as a miniature version of it.
The driver of our tour could not speak English, and there were many actions that I did not understand, so it was a difficult journey.
