Characteristics of “Takasaki Daruma”
The Takasaki Daruma is characterized by its rounded shape, giving it a plump feel.
The requirements for Takasaki Daruma are as follows.
– Takasaki Daruma’s eyebrows are expressed in the shape of a crane and the beard in the shape of a turtle, in honor of the auspicious saying, ”A crane is a thousand years, a turtle is a million years”.
– “Takasaki Daruma” is a registered trademark and refers to Daruma dolls produced in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture and surrounding areas.

Process
Broadly speaking, it consists of four processes.
- Stirring of materials
Add water and ingredients (egg case, cardboard, etc.) to a stirrer and mix.

Place the mold into the material and use a vacuum pump to suction the material.
After drying, remove from the mold
Also, since the mold consists of two pieces, the front and back, the overlapping joints are flattened to adjust the shape. - Drying
Dry the daruma in the sun for about 5 days.
After the outside is dry, turn the daruma over and let the inside dry as well.
- Weight
To prevent it from flying away or rolling over in the wind, use it as a weight.
Glue a weight called a hetta to the bottom of the daruma using base paint. - Application of base material
Paint the completed Daruma doll with paint mixed with gofun.
A base material that improves the color development and finish of paint.
- Since ancient times, red has been said to have a talismanic effect.
Red paint specially formulated for Takasaki Daruma dolls is used.
